the fun session that wasn’t … hackensack, mn photographer

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Well, I’ve done it.  I’ve blurred the line between photographer and mommy.  I had the location, the dress, the props, and the model.  Only the model wasn’t feeling too hot.  Actually, she was feeling too hot, as in sick with a fever.  But, since she was my daughter, and she convinced me (7 yr olds can be quite convincing, you know) that she felt FINE.  Until the camera came out…then it was 13 minutes of pure torture.  The sky was too bright, the bike was too big, and the sidewalk had bugs all over it.  The nerve.   I didn’t get the dream shots I envisioned…but that’s what I get for letting  my sick (she was SO not herself) kid tell me everything would be fine.

Lesson learned.  I’m a bit bummed that I probably won’t be able to reshoot these…seeing as I took them up north, and my husband had to take apart the bicycle so the whole family could fit in the van!  Nice.

*special thanks to the guys who own this building (it’s an antique store/bicycle rental shop/ice cream parlor in Hackensack, MN.  When we showed up, the ‘bicycle rental’ sign was missing :(   I ran into the store and asked what happened…he said he’d put it back up no problem!  Within minutes, I had my sign-thanks guys!!

Let’s begin with the FIRST AND ONLY SMILE OF THE DAY!!!

Do you see the pain and suffering on that little face??

creepy little smirk…

This is the shot with the bugs on the sidewalk…it was pretty much over by that point :)

Well, it’s official, I’ve lost my mind.  2 months ago I bought my hubby a father’s day gift (which is shocking, because I’m the type of gal who buys christmas presents on the 23rd)…so this weekend rolls around, and I remember that I better get that present wrapped.  Just as soon as I find where I hid it.  Yup, just as soooon as I locate it, I will definitely put a ribbon around it.  It’s now Tuesday afternoon…and still nothing.  I even had my husband help me look for his own dang gift.  Now I’m doubting that I ever actually bought anything…maybe I just thought I did?

Well, speaking of lost ‘treasure’…(how about that for a segue?) I was finishing up this little cutie’s gallery, and I came across this picture…turned it into black and white-eek, I love it!

family of five | rogers, mn family photography

Monday, June 21st, 2010

I had a lovely time photographing this cute and crazy little family…can you tell which one is the goofball?  (I’m talking about the sweetie hanging upside in this first shot, if it wasn’t clear!!!)

I haven’t been out to this location in Rogers for about a month…the grass was a LOT taller than I remember…we couldn’t put the little 2 yr old down, for fear of losing her!

The sisters were SO cute together-LOVE IT!!

We actually tried had to re-schedule this shoot 3 times due to bad weather.  Here’s a picture from our front yard on one of the nights we were supposed to take these pictures…

My husband took it with his cell phone WHILE the sirens were going off…nice, huh?  I was sitting in the basement with my kids, promising them that daddy wasn’t going to get sucked up by a tornado…I never should have let them watch ‘the wizard of oz’.  Our town was safe, but there were other towns in Minnesota that didn’t fair so well :(     Hopefully this bad stretch of rain and storms is over for awhile.

I LOVE when people bring interesting props or ideas with for their photo session.  This fabulous mom brought a beautiful bowl for us to use.  I truly can’t believe we got this shot.  First of all, this is not a 5 day old sleepy newborn-this little dude is over 3 weeks old.   Second of all, we were putting him in a porcelin bowl (naked) and expecting him to sleep (his dad may have thought we were nuts)!

So, we’ve already stuck the baby in a bowl and a bucket…what other challenges could we possibly face???  I know, let’s throw a DOG into the mix!  Actually, little pupper here did very well…he was in and out in under 5 minutes!

Okay, I know these guys get teased all the time about their names…but I can’t help it!  This mom and dad are engaged to be married this winter.  Mom’s first name is Brittany…Dad’s last name is…wait for it…Spears.  Yup, this is one of those situations where taking the husband’s last name is not always ideal!  Okay, I got that out of my system…let’s resume the cute picture share!

It was wonderful meeting you guys-thanks for bringing your little cutie all the way out to see me!  I hope this was a good birthday present!!

Okay…cheesy title, I admit it!  But these first pictures were begging for it!  Ack, babies don’t come any cuter than this!!

6 months and she’s already crawling and pulling up on things…mom and dad are NOT going to have a baby for long :)

The weather was gross all weekend…but the rain held off while we quick snapped some shots outside-it is NOT okay that it’s June and only 52 degrees.

Her serious face while she’s sitting on the scale cracks me up…maybe she’ thinking, “I shouldn’t have drank that last bottle, I gained 2 ounces!”

Her mommy brought me all kinds of cute props/clothes to try…I was in heaven-I might have to buy this color pettiskirt-it’s just too darn cute!  Have a fun trip ‘Z’ family…I’ll have your pictures ready when  you get back!

You can tell it’s Saturday | buffalo kids photographer

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Saturday morning is the only day of the week that my kids stay in their jammies…they get up early, turn some cartoons on, and wait for daddy to make pancakes.

While I was getting my backgrounds set up for a shoot today (super cute 6 month 0ld girl!), we had an impromptu photo session.  It lasted all of 30 seconds…but I thought they were kind of fun to share…here are my kiddo’s—-bed head and all!!

aaannnnnnd done.

5 days fresh | west metro newborn photography

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Yesterday was awesome…sure it was rainy and cold and I was locked in my bedroom all morning…that’s right, locked away ALONE in my bedroom.  I have a babysitter coming to watch the kids a couple mornings here and there, so that I can work on biz stuff, and they will have someone to play with!  I worked on the dreaded price list (far and away, the hardest part of owning your own business), and got my high school senior packages squared away.  I also called Wright County to ask about building permits for a studio out here…I got some bad news.  Absolutely NO chance of having a separate studio on my property.   Isn’t that why people live out in the country, so they can do what they want?  Sigh.  Then my husband came home with a great idea (thanks Ian)!  The new plan, is to turn the garage into a studio (which won’t be too difficult, just needs some major windows, a little heat and air, some drywall and paint!), and build a separate garage down the driveway a bit.  The county is FINE with having separate barns and garages, just not businesses or livable space.  So that’s my new plan…no telling how long it will take to implement, but I’m determined!

On to the best part!  I could sit and gush about how absolutely gorgeous these new parents are…and how precious their little 5 day old sweetie is…but I think you get the picture!  It was lovely meeting all three of you-I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

s.m.i.l.e.

Seriously, I looked nothing like this when I came home from the hospital…okay, I look nothing like this on my best hair day EVER…but still!

Last week I met this lovely little family…and get this, they’re my neighbors!!  Okay, I use that term loosely…but they’re only about 2 or 3 miles from my house-definitely the closest customers I’ve ever had!  A large majority of my clients come from the twin cities area, so it was really cool to meet some yocal locals!  Hey-I don’t even have to ship this order ;)

Check out the stud in the orange plaid tie (thank goodness for www.etsy.com for such cuteness!).

I love the little ‘rain’ outfit that mom brought for her-she was totally ‘working’ the boot/umbrella combo!

Then we went outside…it happened to be about 90 degrees that afternoon…and I’m pretty sure the kiddo’s had run out of smiles about 5 minutes before we headed out!

Dad goes, “so on a scale of 1 to 10…how bad are we doing at this picture thing?”!!  Well, you’ve got a baby and a 2 yr old…it doesn’t get much better than this!
