I need to start exercising again.  I was reminded again of this fact during this photo session.  No, I didn’t have to chase the kids all over, they were very well behaved…it was more of a terrain type of situation.  As in, many, many, m-a-n-y stairs were used to get to this cool bridge.  The going down wasn’t so bad…but the going up…that hike would slow Richard Simmons down.

Maybe I’ll start excersising tomorrow.  Probably not.  If I could just get to the gym one time, maybe that would get the ball rolling!  Did I mention I’m going to Mexico in about 6 weeks?  Okay, tomorrow it is.

These cousins did a fabulous job…and the stairs didn’t even phase them!

Grandma and Grandpa with their grandkids…they seem way to young to have this many grandchildren already!

It’s been a long time since I’ve hung out with identical twins!  These boys were mirror images, down to their matching outfits!  I don’t think I got their names right once…poor little guys!

Here’s the 20×10 storyboard Grandma’s ordering!

It was great to see you guys again…I had fun (minus the huffing and puffing)!

You know the phrase, “don’t make me pull this car over?”.  I’m sure your dad used it on you back in the day…maybe you try it on your own kids now.  Well, occassionally I like to throw that phrase out there myself.  Today was one of those days.  I picked up Brady (2 1/2) from daycare.  He’s still adjusting to that routine…and I think he’s trying to make me feel guilty by being especially devilish whenever I pick him up!

We were driving along, and we passed by a park.  He started screaming, “PARK!”  “P-A-R-R-R-R-R-K!!!” at the top of his lungs.  I calmly told him, “nope, not today, we have to go home and make supper”.  As you can imagine, he didn’t care for my answer, and continued to scream at an ear splitting level that was so piercing and shrill, it almost reached a frequency that only dogs can hear.  I turned up the radio and pretended to ignore him.  After a few miles, I couldn’t stand it.  I threw out my token phrase, “do you want me to pull this car over?”  He screamed, “YES!” well, what am I supposed to do, ignore that?  So, I pulled over.  I unbuckled him from the car and took him kicking and screaming to the side of the road and set him down (we’re talking deserted country road, not Hwy 394-don’t judge!).  I got back in the car and pulled forward a few feet.  Nothing.  He stopped screaming and just stared stubbornly at me.  I drove a few more feet.  Still sitting.  Well, now what’s a parent to do?  He’s obviously not understanding that he lost the battle, and he’s looking pretty pleased with himself.  I waited a minute longer…but eventually I saw a car in the distance so I went and got him.  Of course he started the tantrum right back up again.  I’m sure I looked like an unfit parent as I attempted to buckle my thrashing 2 yr old into his car seat, meanwhile that car in the distance drew nearer and crept by, watching my struggle.

So he won.  My 2 year old bested me at my own game.   Never again can I use the phrase, “don’t make me pull this car over!”, because it won’t work…he knows I won’t just drive away and leave him.  When he’s 15, that’s another story!

Here’s my latest baby boy.  There are going to be a LOT of newborn boys on the blog in the next month or so…is there something in the water?  This little guy gave his parents a few scares midway through the pregnancy (contractions and stuff), and mom had to go on bedrest for awhile.  He waited until 37 weeks, and then said that was enough, he was ready to meet the world!

Congratulations on your sweet little boy…I can’t wait to watch him grow!   I’m sure he’ll be much better behaved than my own brood.  But if,  in a few years you’re driving down the road and Mr. E starts to scream bloody murder, just remember that following through on your threats is not always a good idea!

This one with dad is my favorite!!

You might remember this gorgeous mama from her maternity session…

Look at his cute little flaky feet in the shot above.  His mom called me the day before in a bit of a panic…she said, “HE’S MOULTING!  His skin is all falling off!”  Maybe he spent too much time tanning under those ‘billy lights’??  Just kidding, it’s totally normal.

I am not a lifestyle photographer.  I break out into hives when people tell me they want everything natural, candid and unposed.  For years I worked in a studio where every picture was perfectly centered, every head was tipped just so, and every smile was bright and forced.  Breaking out of that mold is not easy, and I still love the look of families looking ‘posed’ and structured.

So, when this mom called and asked if I would come to her house to photograph her one month old, I was a bit nervous.  I always have people come to my home studio…it’s familiar, and I have a lot of backgrounds and props that aren’t easy to travel with…going to someone’s home meant I wouldn’t be able to bring all of my backgrounds and ’security blankets’ with me!  Not to mention the fact that after a baby passes the  2 week mark,  it gets harder to get those cute curled pictures.

I’m happy to report, that I not only survived, but it was actually quite pleasant.  I enjoyed trying something out of the ordinary…and even though I still managed to haul 4 loads of stuff with me, I didn’t feel like I ‘HAD’ to have every last prop at my fingertips.  I was also thrilled that baby ‘J’ was a total sweetheart and gave me a good 20 minutes of sleep before his eyeballs refused to close anymore.

This first shot is a favorite!

Sleepy time OVER….why am I in an old box?

I love this shot with mom and dad, doesn’t the baby look sooo happy?

‘K’, you look gorgeous ;)

Thanks for having me over, you have a beautiful home, and I really enjoyed getting to know you!

I feel like I have a lot I could ramble about today.

* The weather…ahhh, the weather.  The weather is the one neutral topic that everyone has an opinion on….whether (hey, I used whether AND weather in the same sentence…how often does that happen?) you care to hear it or not!  I’m obsessing because tomorrow looks c r a p p y and I’m doing my first ever day of mini-sessions.  I am almost 90% sure that we are going to bump it to Sunday.  I’m just waiting for the weatherman to pull a ‘hail mary’ (please, no actual hail, that’s the last thing we need) before I make my final decision!

* I went to the Wright County hearing last night to state my case (about rennovating my garage into a studio)…all went well.  And yet another hoop has been jumped through in the excuciatingly    s  l  o  w     process of making my business what I want it to be.

* October weekends are full, until the very last weekend I believe.  If you want a picture with ‘fall color’, it’s going to have to be on a weekday!!

* Something kind of exciting for me…I was featured on Inspire Me Baby!  It’s a blog that showcases different photographers and their unique and/or creative sessions.  To me, it feels like in high school when you would get the award for ‘most improved’….sounds corny, but that’s what I think of…not that I ever got a ‘most improved’ award for any sports in high school.  Remember those green ‘participation’ awards?  Yeah, I have a whole collection of those bad boys.

* I have a new collection of 2010 holiday cards…if you receive my newsletter, I will be sending out a link to everyone on that list showing them the different holiday card examples.  If you aren’t on that list, leave a comment in the comment section below, and I’ll add you!  Here is an example of a 5×7/double sided (meaning full color print on front and back) horizontal card.

Remember this little cutie?  This is Little ‘D’ at her 6 month session back in March…it’s one of my favorite shots ever!

Fast forward 6 months…She came back for her one year pics…and she still had that nervous/curious little look on her face!  Since I can read babies minds, I’ll translate what she was thinking…

Oh, man…this lady is scaring me….good thing I got both my blankies to protect me.

Oh crap, they took my blankies…maybe she won’t see me if I hide behind this chair…

Allright fine, you get ONE great smile-you better snap fast-I’m only doing it once.

I know, I’ll stare her down…whoever blinks first loses ;)

We headed outside for a bit of fresh air…I think that’s all little ‘D’ wanted…a bit of freedom to run around!

Thanks for bringing your sweet girl out to see me…she’s cute when she smiles AND when she pouts :)   In all seriousness, we did get more than ONE smile-I just thought it would be fun to share her ‘other’ faces!!

Remember the contest I had a few weeks ago?  Well, here are the winners!!   It was SUCH a close one, I really was NOT expecting it to come down to the wire…and yet, with just minutes to spare, the ‘P’ family pulled ahead…thanks to her awesome friends and family on facebook!  Thanks again to everyone who entered and voted, it was great fun to watch it play out!

It was also great fun hanging out with this family…they were so easy-going and just plain cool (as I’m sure you will gather from the sun glasses and tatoo’s!).  I hope it was worth the effort (and stress!)  it took to win ;)

RAWR!!

I’ll have your CD ready in a week or so!!

I put my youngest (Brady-2 1/2 yrs.) in daycare today.  He’s going to go about 2 days a week.  I’ve been dreading the drop off situation.  He’s majorly attached to me, and cries every time I leave the house.  So, as you can imagine, I was expecting the worse when I brought him to the front door.  We went inside, and he immediately took off his shoes and coat.  He ran into the playroom and got busy playing with the kids.  While I was talking to his daycare lady, he ran up to me and asked for a kiss and then a hug.  And that was it.  No drama, no meltdowns, nothing.  I was so relieved…actually, part of me was like, “why aren’t you crying?  Aren’t you going to miss me?”!!  But, overall…relief!

This was the second time I got to see this cute family…it was another HOT day for pictures…thank goodness we had refreshments!  The two little boys were busy doing all kinds of stunts for me.  Each of them took a header off of a different platform…within minutes of each other.  Thankfully, the tall grasses softened the blow, and the recovery time wasn’t too long!

I made a little storyboard…

While the boys were busy polishing off their watermelon, we grabbed a few shots of mom and dad together…I love how they turned out!  Sometimes I get so busy worrying about the kid pics, that I forget…but it’s so nice to have a few pictures of just you and your love :)   If I am ever taking pictures of YOUR family, please remind me to snap a few of mom and dad alone!

Picture perfect.  I know, that is the lamest title for a blog post ever…but I couldn’t think of better words to describe how perfect this session went!  A few days before their session, the mom had asked me for some clothing advice.  My brilliant idea, “layers!”….think jeans and fall sweaters.  So, being a good mom, she made sure her kiddos came with all kinds of nice woolly creations.  Except it was hot out.  As in 95 degrees and 100% humidity.  H.  O.   T.

And yet, they rocked it!  I’ve been using that phrase a lot… ‘rocked it’…it just kind of flows out there, making me sound either A) ultra hip (which we all know is a lie)  or  B) like I WANT to be ultra hip…which in and of itself seems even more sad and desparate. So, we’ll go with C) none of the above, and hope that we can just move past the whole ‘rocked it’ phrase that I seem so partial to using.

Telling mom a secret…

Mom ordered this twirling picture to hang above her daughter’s bed-it’s going to look so dang cute!
