The senior session that’s kickin butt and taking names | Monticello, MN High School Senior Portraits

Hey…

So, here’s the story…

My photographer friend Angie (the one I went to Vegas with in February) and I both had similar ideas to do a senior model group session…we were talking one day, and decided it would be much more fun to combine efforts (and our models) and do the shoot together!

I know that seems strange to do a marketing type project with someone who is truly your competition, but we’re crazy (or stupid) like that!  We both love photographing seniors, and we both have similar business models (ie: small, boutique portrait studios).  This means we will both only shoot a select number of seniors each year, and we know that there are plenty of seniors to ‘go around’!  And who doesn’t like a senior that ‘gets around’?  Why on earth would I say that?  Geesh, filter much.

Angie and I got together and planned out our goals for this event.  We wanted the following:   A stylized/editorial type shoot including 2 different ‘looks’(boho chic and nautical fresh were the themes on our pinterest boards!!).  The shoot would take place at my studio (since I have land, it was easy to do 1/2 of the session right here), and we would take turns posing and working with groups of models.  We wanted behind the scenes video of us and the models in action, and we wanted to have a party a few weeks after the shoot.

We were lucky enough to know someone who creates amazing videos (Brian, with Triple 20 Entertainment)…as well as 2 very talented hair/makeup ladies (Breanna & January, who work at Simonson’s in Plymouth.  Since we knew we were getting this all captured on film, we knew we wanted to have a big ‘viewing party’ for the models and their friends.  Our local theater let us rent out one of their theater rooms, and we got to watch the video for the first time on the big screen!!  After the viewing, we popped in the movie ‘footloose’, and settled in for a nice chick flick:)

I think I need to make a few things clear….first of all, I am NOT a movie star.  I know, I know, people make this mistake a lot…but it’s just not true (I think it’s a combination of my strong fashion sense ((pajama pants)), my dramatic outbursts ((a mild tic)), and my winning smile ((4 yrs of braces and some crest white strips)).  Secondly, I would like to give a huge shout out to the good Lord!  (now she thinks she’s won an Oscar??)  The weather on the day of our big shoot was nasty.  Pouring rain all day…and by some miracle, the raining stopped the second we stepped outside.  In fact, when we drove to the beach for the nautical portion of the shoot, it was down pouring, and even hailing by my studio, but instead of rain and hail, we got peeks of sun…So THANKS, big guy~you rock!

Here is the video…the credits are my favorite part, so stick around for those;)

And here are 5 million pictures from our shoot…

I was sent here by a fellow photographer friend that saw these and shared with me. These are so great and the session looks like so much fun!! What a neat idea. LOVE THEM!

Seriously awesome and incredibly cool. The models are stunning, locations are fabulous and the styling is off the charts. The resulting images? Fan-flippin’-tastic!!!

you have got to be kidding me! this is such an amazing shoot. I LOVED your video … so cool to have it all pulled together to share and celebrate. I also love that you did this with your ‘competition’ . your work is GORGEOUS!
