Vegas and Vampires | Sartell, MN senior pictures

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

I can’t think of too many companies that would consider Vegas to be a wise choice for their yearly business conference.  Unless you’re a photographer…then it’s all good.  I am so excited that I get to leave frigid Minnesota this February for a few days to attend a workshop and a giant tradeshow.  My focus for this trip is to gain a little more knowledge in senior photography…I love working with that age group…I also like to pretend that I still am that age.  So it’s a good match.  I’m hoping to roll out a new senior program next spring~so stay tuned for that action!

As I mentioned on the blog earlier, this weekend is TWILIGHT FEST with my 2 sister-in-laws down in Rochester.  It will involve a movie marathon and chinese takeout on Friday night…and Saturday we’ll head to the theater to see the latest release…breaking down part 1.  Then onward to the bar for drinks and stimulating conversations about Edward, Bella and the rest of the gang.  I loved the books, and thought the movies were okay.  I will admit that I’m more excited to eat the M&M’s and Nibs that I bought for the movie than for the actual show.  Don’t tell my SIL Krista, she is so obsessed she might need an intervention.  I swear, if I get there tomorrow and she has fangs, I am leaving.  Seriously, if she even thinks of twinkling in the sunshine, I am outta there.

Back to seniors…here is a beautiful senior girl that I photographed this summer…she is probably one of the nicest girls I’ve ever met (not even a hint or twinge of diva-ness in her…which, let’s face it…many 17 yr old girls have, especially when their mothers are nearby-a strange phenomenon) her and her sisters were so sweet and helpful….hopefully I’ll get to see them for THEIR senior pictures in a few years :)

the internet makes me talk fancy | st. cloud kids photographer

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

The words that come out of my mouth VS the words that come via my fingers are two very different things.  For one thing, when I type, I don’t over-use the word ‘like’.  IRL (mom, that stands for: ‘in real life‘), I like, talk like a minnesota valley girl.   It’s like, the new ‘um’.

The biggest thing I’ve noticed is how elegant I sound when commenting on another photographers work (which, let’s face it…in this business, we like a lot of pats on the back!!).  So, if I see a picture that I love, my comments are as follows, “absolutely breathtaking!”, “truly amazing!”, and my favorite, “simply stunning.”  If I EVER tried to use one of those phrases IRL there would be no way to keep a straight face.  “Korey, this chicken is simply stunning.”  Not gonna happen.

It just made me wonder how the internet managed to change the way I communicate.  Am I a poser?  Would the internet gods (come on, I’m Lutheran, I know there’s no such thing) strike me down if I left a comment that sounds more like the real me?  “That’s like, frickin cool.”  Hmmm, maybe change isn’t all bad.

And now may I present some absolutely breathtaking children…the way they photograph is truly amazing.  I’m not exaggerating…I am they are simply stunning.

See, I told ya they were cute :)

New website! SENIORS baby

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

I’ve been a little quiet on the old blog here lately…I’ve been working, I swear…just on something a little different.  Seniors!  Not the old AARP kind of seniors…the young, sassy, take on the world kind of seniors.  Nothing wrong with popcorn hair portraiture, who knows, that might be next years venture…but for now, I’m going to stick with the non-wrinkled variety.

Take a peek at my new senior site. (click on ’seniors’ on the right side).

These two girls shown below are going to be seniors next year in Monticello…they also happen to be my babysitters!  I threatened to take away their job if they didn’t do a little modeling for me~heheehee!  The galleries in the senior site are still a bit sparse…so hopefully I’ll get some fun seniors at the studio soon to spruce it up ;)

Highlights from 2010 | minnesota modern portrait photographer

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Well, I’m heading out of town today for a long New Years celebration.  This is the only weekend every year when I realize that I do not own a pair of snow-pants…and when the kids inevitably beg me to go sledding with them, I have to put on 4 pairs of sweatpants to survive.  I prefer to wear my bright pink polka dot ‘zumba-esque’ pants over the top of the layers to give it that really ‘finished’ look.

Without getting sappy or sentimental (neither of which I do well), I want to thank all of my clients for being so awesome.  Thank you for trusting me to capture a few of your memories…thank you for being normal (that’s a biggie), decent people who I feel comfortable working with…thank you for bringing me such COOL kids that make my job easy…well, I think that’s enough sap, don’t you?

I have a few more sessions to blog, but I think I’ll save them for next year (HAHAHA, sorry, that line cracks me up e.v.e.r.y. time…what am I, 12?).  Instead, I’d like to share some of my favorite images from the past year.  I shot over 90 sessions this year, and it was so hard to only show a few…I attempted to limit my share to ten favs, but I might have gone over a bit…

Oh, and just an FYI…session fee’s will be going up a wee bit in 2011, not like crazy-high…but probably about $20 more or so…if you’d like to book your session now & get the 2010 rates (even if you don’t plan on taking the pictures until July), you can go ahead and do it!  This offer is only good until I get my butt in gear and re-work my website and shopping cart area!   Operators are standing by.

Here we go:

the farm | st. cloud family photographer

Oh my, I have got to get caught up…lots of sessions to come on the old blog… not to mention facebook… I need to clone myself (but one with better work ethics, a british accent and a perfect size 6 body).

This lovely family had me come out to their family farm in St. Cloud.  It was a fabulous spot for taking pictures…I wish it was a bit closer to me, I’d sneak over there more!  We met on a Saturday in October when it was over 80 degree’s.  The poor kids were melting in their knit sweaters!  Oh, and can I just say,  if I had an award show (which gives me an idea…hmmmm) the award for the most stylish family goes to these folks.  I loved how all of their outfits worked together without looking forced or un-natural.  Take notes, people!!

The grand-kids crew.

Here’s the view looking out towards the ‘front yard’ as it were.  Talk about idyllic.

Then we had a little mini-session with each family…

I smell a Christmas card shot here….

CHEERS!

When they were booking the session I asked how many kids would be in the pictures.  They said ten.  I asked if there would be cocktails afterwards.  They said, “of course!”

Once upon a time | buffalo, mn family and newborn photographer

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Once upon a time…in a bed in my backyard…sat a sweet little family, who spent the afternoon ‘ooohing and ahhing’ over their new little girl.

FYI-combining family sessions with newborn sessions does not always fly…but I’ll always give it a try-and look how good she did!!  She is such a sweet little girl, only 1 week old in these pictures.

Back to the magical bed in the forest  ;-)

Obviously, I couldn’t resist getting a few individuals of big brother and big sister-holy gorgeous batman!!

Oh yeah, got another pic for my ‘bloopers’ section!!

It was lovely meeting you guys–thanks for being my guinea pigs with the whole bed thing…and a special thanks to my husband for putting it together and hauling it out there for me!  It’s still  in my garage-but he’s threatening to take it down asap!  If anyone else wants a magical bed session (that sounds like a whole different genre, doesn’t it?), email me FAST!

Andddd….if you haven’t entered the creative idea contest, your missing out  ;)

CRUSH…St. Cloud Children’s Photography

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

I’ve been meaning to do this shoot with my 4 yr old for awhile now.  His hair was at the perfect stage about a month ago (please don’t shake your head like I’m nuts…even boy hair has good and bad stages).  Well, last month came and went with no pictures and a mop full of hot, sweaty hair.  I knew we had to shave it off for the summer, the kid starts dripping sweat the second you look at him funny.  So, last Saturday the whole family headed to St. Cloud in search of a cool urban spot (well, actually, I told my husband we were going for groceries, and I just happened to bring my camera along).  After a quick scout out, we found the perfect location, and my husband took the other 2 kids, and said cheerfully, “you’ve got 10 minutes.”  No problem, this kid loves the camera…especially when candy is mentioned.  He did a pretty good job…but wasn’t really feeling the smiles…apparently, I’ve asked him to do his ’serious face’ one too many times.

This kid thinks he’s funny ALL.  THE.  TIME.  I wonder where he gets that from??

The only real smile of the day…kind of goofy and out of focus, but I still like it!  Special shout out to Grandma J. for purchasing the Orange Crush and the cool shoes…I owe ya!

By far, my fav from the day-work that camera baby ;)

I’m heading out of town this weekend.  10th Annual Girls Weekend.  WOO-HOO!!  Always the highlight of my summer.  There are 7 of us going to the Spicer area this year…so if you happen to be on Lake Swenson this weekend and you hear a bunch of ruckus…that’s the sound of a bunch of super-cool thirty something chicks…acting like we’re still 21.
